Boost your brain and proactively prevent cognitive decline by following these good health habits:
As we grow older, many of us find ourselves having those “senior moments” when we forget something. While memory loss can occur at any age, getting older do not automatically mean you will lose your memory. Living a healthy lifestyle and exercising your mind to keep it sharp, may help you retain information late into your life. However, you can proactively prevent cognitive decline by following these good health habits:
Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t the only thing you can do to improve memory retention. Check out these tips suggested by Harvard Health to keep your memory sharp at any age:
Learn it all: Being a lifelong learner may help with memory retention. Staying mentally active and challenging your brain by picking up a new skill or hobby will keep your mind quick and sharp while also maintaining individual brain cells and stimulating communication among them.
Use your senses: Incorporating all of your senses into learning something may help you retain the information better. Including sight, smell, touch, taste, or hearing into learning something, your brain will link the information to these senses and therefore recall it more often.
Plan it out: Do not waste memory space trying to remember things like everyone’s birthday or your grocery list. Instead, take advantage of organizational tools such as planners, calendars, or notebooks. Doing so will allow you to fill your memory space with new tasks and skills rather than using your brain energy to try and remember where you left your car keys.
