Patient First out of network in Virginia, effective, October 1, 2024.
Patient First has been notified by Humana of its decision to terminate Patient First’s participation in its Medicare Advantage insurance plans in Virginia, effective October 1, 2024.
What is the impact to patients?
Humana Medicare Advantage members who visit Patient First in Virginia will not be covered by Humana and must be seen by a doctor at another practice. This change does not affect those insured by Humana Military/Tricare plans.
What can Humana members do if they wish to continue to be treated at Patient First?
Patient First participates with several Medicare Advantage plans in Virginia. If you wish to enroll in a plan with which Patient First participates, you may be able to transfer your membership to another insurer during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period occurring October 15 – December 7.
Why is Humana terminating participation with Patient First?
For years, Patient First has worked cooperatively with Humana to expand access to convenient, cost-effective medical care for Humana members. However, as we continue to see routine increases in our cost to provide our patients with medical care, Humana has informed us that we must accept significant cuts to our reimbursement if we wish to remain in their network. We cannot agree to participate with an insurance plan that is not keeping up with inflation.
We recognize that any disruption to insurance coverage can be deeply unsettling. We hope to serve you again in the future, should you enroll in a plan in which we participate.
