Stepping Up And Showing Up For Laurel House

A few wobbly steps and plenty of smiles helped bring the community together for Laurel House’s annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes at Ursinus College, near our Collegeville center. Patient First was happy to return for this year’s event, which raised more than $48,000 to support people affected by domestic violence.

Walking a mile in high heels gives participants something to laugh about together, but the reason for gathering is serious. The event raises awareness of domestic abuse and supports Laurel House’s crisis intervention, safe shelter and other services for individuals and families. Laurel House’s organizers and volunteers deserve credit for making the walk fun and welcoming while keeping that purpose at the heart of the day. Their efforts brought people together to show support and start conversations about a difficult subject.

For Patient First, the day was also a chance to reconnect. We have supported Laurel House and its mission for many years and have enjoyed taking part in its events throughout that time. Staff, board members and volunteers stopped by our table to say hello and thank us for our continued involvement, which we always appreciate. Those relationships mean a great deal to us. Being there year after year has given us a chance to get to know the people doing this important work while helping to support their efforts in the community. We were glad to share a few smiles, cheer on the walkers and be part of another memorable day for Laurel House.
