Fauquier County Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday and serves as a time to honor freedom, reflect on our nation’s history, celebrate African American culture and achievements, and strengthen community through education, unity, and service.

The Fauquier County Juneteenth Celebration has become an annual tradition that brings together residents, local organizations, businesses, and community leaders to commemorate this important day. This year’s event was held at a new location just 10 miles from our Gainesville center, making it even more accessible to many of the families and patients we serve. The celebration spanned two days, with vendors participating on the second day.

The event featured live musical performances, talented dancers, children’s activities, and a petting zoo that delighted many families before it closed early due to the extreme heat for the animals. Throughout the day, the atmosphere reflected the spirit of Juneteenth bringing people together to celebrate culture, history, and community.

Overall, the Fauquier County Juneteenth Celebration was a tremendous success. We were honored to once again support this important community event, celebrate the significance of Juneteenth alongside our neighbors, and continue building meaningful connections with the individuals and families we serve. We look forward to participating again next year.
