Turn Your New Year's Resolution into a Sustainable Habit

It happens every year – people setting New Year’s resolutions that don’t stick. While you may be very motivated in the beginning, it may be hard to keep working toward your goal. Check out these tips to help you maintain your resolution all year long:

Set short term goals
Break your New Year’s resolution into smaller, manageable tasks. This will keep you motivated by allowing you to see your progress, without seeming overwhelming.

Enjoy the journey
Try not to focus so much on the results of your resolution. Instead of focusing on the outcome, let your resolution be about the journey.

Include a friend
Resolutions may be easier to achieve if you are held responsible for them. Include a buddy in your resolution. That way you both have something to work toward and have each other for support and motivation.

Track your progress
Keep a journal tracking your progress. This will allow you to see how far you have come and help you stay on task while working toward your goal.

Don’t give up
Sometimes new things can be challenging. Don’t be discouraged if you happen to slip. Many people will just give up if they aren’t making the progress they’d hoped for. Keep yourself motivated and working toward your goal!
